I take care of the planning and keep the filming easy. You do not need to arrive with a list of questions or know what to say.

You tell me who you have in mind and what you would love to capture. I’ll answer your questions and explain what is involved.

I plan the interview
We choose a comfortable place to film and I put together questions based on the person, their life and your family.

We film
The interview is relaxed and unhurried. There is no script to learn, and family members can be part of it if that feels right.

I make your film
I shape the conversation into a finished film and send it to you in a format that is easy to watch, keep and share.

Why I started Moving Picture
“The little things are often what we miss most.”
I kept thinking about how much of a person never makes it into photographs. Their voice. Their timing. The expressions they make when they tell a story they have told a hundred times.
That is why I started Moving Picture. I wanted families to have more than a record of what someone looked like. I wanted them to have something that still feels like the person they know.

If your question is not here, just ask. I am happy to talk it through.
What if they’re nervous on camera?+
Most people are, at least to begin with. We take our time and talk as we normally would. There is no script, no need to perform and no rush to get the perfect answer.
Where does filming take place?+
Usually at home or somewhere else that feels familiar. We’ll choose the place together and keep the setup as unobtrusive as possible.
What area do you cover?+
Moving Picture is based in Hamilton and currently works with families throughout the Waikato region. If the person you have in mind lives further afield, get in touch and we can talk about whether travel is possible.
Can other family members be involved?+
Of course. They can join the conversation, suggest questions beforehand or simply be there on the day.
How much does it cost?+
There are three packages: The Portrait at $800, The Life Story at $1,400 and The Family Archive at $2,200. Click a package to see what is included.
How long is the finished film?+
It depends on the person and the stories we capture. We’ll talk about the likely length before you decide to go ahead.
How is the film delivered?+
You’ll receive a high-quality digital film that is easy to watch and share, plus a master copy to keep somewhere safe.

The Portrait
$800
A focused film about one person and the stories that matter most to them. There is enough time for a proper conversation without trying to cover every chapter of their life.

The Life Story
$1,400
More time to talk through childhood, family, work, turning points and the stories they are known for. A good choice when you want a fuller picture of someone’s life.

The Family Archive
$2,200
For a longer life story with room for extra topics, longer conversations or other family members. Nothing needs to be rushed, and the finished film has space to breathe.

Finished film lengths are a guide. The edit follows the conversation and the footage we capture, rather than being forced to hit an exact running time.
